About Us

Kehila Kedosha Janina, at the same location on the Lower East Side for the past 95 years, is the last remaining Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. Our active community still conducts weekly services in the traditional Romaniote liturgy. ​

 

Join us for our weekly Shabbat and Jewish holiday services. Use our state-of-the-art facility to host a wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, family reunion, or other events.

Religious Services 

Learn more about Greek Jewry and Jewish Life on the Lower East Side. Our museum is open to the public every Sunday from 11am-4pm as well as by appointment and offers free guided tours. Visitors are strongly encouraged to email museum@kkjsm.org to let us know if you plan to visit. 

 

The museum serves as a repository for Greek Jewish history and culture. It also hosts a variety of events throughout the year including lectures, book signings, movie screenings, and concerts.

We Are Hiring - Rabbinic Fellow

Apply by May 5, 2024

KKJ is excited to announce that we are recruiting candidates for a new Rabbinic Fellow position. We are seeking a dynamic candidate who will lead public outreach, recruitment, and general community development for our synagogue. This position is part-time and is focused on building community, increasing member engagement during services and religious programming, and fostering a sense of belonging to our Greek Jewish home.

Join us at KKJ as we celebrate Pesah and Shavuoth in the Romaniote tradition. At the same location on the Lower East Side for the past 97 years, KKJ is the last remaining Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere conducting services in the Judeo-Greek Romaniote Minhag (tradition). Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony

May 5 at 1pm

We invite you to join us to remember all who perished in the Holocaust, especially those we lost on the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Jews from Ioannina, Arta, Preveza, Patras, Chalkis, Athens, Kastoria, Larissa, Volos, Trikala, Corfu, Rhodes, and Kos. Following our ceremony there will be a special presentation featuring photos of the Jews of Ioannina who perished 80 years ago. Please RSVP to Museum@kkjsm.org

Greek Jewish Festival

May 19 from 12pm-6pm

Join the Greek Jewish Festival as we celebrate the unique Romaniote & Sephardic heritage of the Jews of Greece! Experience a feast for the senses including authentic kosher Greek foods and homemade Greek pastries, traditional dance performances with live Greek and Sephardic music, an outdoor marketplace full of vendors, arts and educational activities for kids, and much more!
